In Soulmates, Leslie uses a dating website and discovers that her closest match is Tom, though she finds out later that he has made several alternate accounts to score girls of all walks of life. When a partygoer at Andy Dwyer and April Ludgate's wedding comments on how all the good women are taken, Ben seems to look at Leslie, wondering if this is true. Leslie wants Ben to stay, but she is reluctant to say it outright and leaves Ben on the fence. In April and Andy's Fancy Party, Leslie and Ben discuss a job offer that could move Ben away from Pawnee. In Camping, Tom Haverford and Ben have a conversation about why Ben has not left for Indianapolis to pursue his career, and Ben hints that it is because he has romantic feelings for Leslie. Near the end of the episode, Ben pretends to "Get" Li'l Sebastian for Leslie's sake, even though he admits that he has no idea why Li'l Sebastian attracts so much attention. Leslie and Ben bond, making a secret handshake and talking very animatedly to each other. In Harvest Festival, Leslie and her coworkers are dismayed when Ben doesn't see the hype about Li'l Sebastian. Later, after being called to Indianapolis for a new assignment, Ben and Chris decide to stay in Pawnee, hinting that their reasons might not be solely work-related. In Flu Season, Ben is impressed when Leslie manages to drag herself to the Chambers of Commerce and deliver a moving speech while she is sick. But Ben shows his true colors and sympathetically hires him again to play at the Kick-Off. Eventually, Leslie realizes that Freddy Spaghetti (The Character) isn't coming, and tries to substitute him. Leslie is frustrated, and when Ron Swanson accidentally lets the cat out of the bag that Leslie is trying to go on with the kick-off anyway, Ben and Chris try to shut it down, but Leslie claims that all of the money has been donated, and it can't be given back. In Freddy Spaghetti, Leslie tries to keep the Pawnee Summer Kick-Off afloat, but Ben explains there is simply not enough money. Later in the episode, they finally start to get along, and Ben explains his mayor fail in Partridge, Minnesota. They start off on the wrong foot after Leslie is passionately opposed to letting go some of her employees, and she berates him for trying to tear the government apart. In The Master Plan, Leslie and Ben meet in the Pawnee City Hall when Ben and Chris Traeger come in to inform Pawnee about budget cuts.
